From Fort Erie to Queens Park

Updated: Jun 14

We had a parade in Fort Erie June 1 to bring attention to Douglas Memorial and the need for 24/7 Urgent Care- everyone that spoke at the rally expressed a need not just to re-open our urgent care 24/7 but the need to provide full service equity in healthcare for Fort Erie and our surrounding communities.

On Tuesday Fort Erie Healthcare SOS founder Heather Kelley and Sue Hotte from the Niagara Health Coalition took our message to the media room in Queens Park where we delivered over 3,200 signed letters addressed to Premier Ford and Minister of Health Sylvia Jones. MPP Jeff Burch helped us deliver a strong media message . We need 24/7 Urgent Care in Fort Erie, Port Colborne and we need 24/7 emergency surgeries in Welland.

The Provincisl government needs to step up to the plate and make sure no one is left behind in their wrongheaded decisions to fund private care instead of putting the money back into our public healthcare. Their health systems have shut down ER’s and diagnostic services in our hospitals and are paying big dollars to private clinics and nursing agencies to provide the same service.

We do not want private clinics and to be uphold on services that are now available through OHIP. The time to stop this madness is now or we will forever be competing in a US style healthcare system that only provides for those that can pay

Next action will be July 3rd outside Douglas Memorial to celebrate her 93rd birthday Come join us at 4 pm for a slice of cake and to discuss all things healthcare. See you there

If you would like a lawn sign to show support for public healthcare we have them available for $10.00 and the money is used to help keep our community informed

Contact Heather Kelley on our website, Facebook, X or just call and ask how you can help
